The Grey (2011) - Review

The Grey (2011) is a survivalist film starring Liam Neeson as John Ottway. HIs character is a suicidal man who has finished up his stint as a marksman in charge of protecting oil teams in Alaska from wolves. On a return flight home, him and his crew crash in the wilderness and must find their way to safety while being hunted by a pack of wolves.

The film moves along at a brisk pace with the crew facing off against the wolves, the environment and each other. Great action sequences with some genuinely tense and scary moments. Liam Neeson puts out a fantastic performance and the film really shows a man finding worth in his own life after deciding to give it all away.

Carrie (2013) - Review

Carrie (2013) is the third movie based on Stephen King's 1974 novel of the same name directed by Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don't Cry). While I have seen many of the negative reviews of the film calling it "unnecessary" as it follows the 1974 Brian De Palma version too closely (which it definetly does) that in no way takes away any enjoyment of watching the movie.

Carrie is still a great story about using violence to exact revenge on school bullies. It's still entertaining and there are great performances from Chloƫ Grace Moretz, who is the perfect blend of pretty/ugly and Julianne Moore, who is the perfect blend of old/crazy.
